Fire Station #1 is located at 259 County Road 44 in Kemptville and is the primary fire station serving North Grenville. Constructed in 2009, the station houses a fleet of fire apparatus, equipment, and gear. The building also supports administrative fire service staff and administration services.
Volunteer firefighters utilize training facilities, a fitness area, and personal care spaces. For continuity of operations, the building is equipped with a generator for back-up power and the necessary information technology.
The fire station does not offer 24-hour service. In an emergency, first responders who are able to avail themselves travel to fire station #1 to acquire personal protective equipment and respond with fire apparatus to the emergency location.
Fire protection services is a municipal (lower tier) responsibility. The types and level of service provided is decided by municipal council and is based on the needs and circumstances of the municipality.
Fostering a workplace of diversity and inclusion, the North Grenville fire service team consists of a compliment of approximately 40 volunteer callout firefighters and ranking officers. Emergency calls received by a dispatching service provider are delivered through a digital paging system as an all-call message. These women and men respond to emergency calls for service based on their individual availability.
Although these members are classified as “volunteer”, each member will receive a nominal annual honourarium based on their attendance. Members do not receive salaries or benefits and hold job/careers elsewhere.
Every municipality must assess their local risks and establish a service level based on their identified needs and circumstances. Fire services and service levels are authorized by municipal council through the passing of an establishing and regulating by-law. Funding for capital assets and business operations is provided through municipal taxation with no funding from other levels of government.
The North Grenville fire service is authorized to provide approved emergency protective services.
Services include:
- fire suppression,
- motor vehicle incidents,
- extrication,
- ice & water rescue,
- medical assist,
- and other emergency services
within the limits of the training and equipment.
When to Call 9-1-1:

You will be asked if you require Police, Fire, or Ambulance. Your call will be immediately transferred to the appropriate agency. An emergency call taker will have you answer very specific questions to expedite receipt of critical information and send the appropriate help as quickly as possible.
Know your exact location, this information is critical to ensure help can find you quickly. Stay calm and communicate clearly.
9-1-1 operators will dispatch first responders but may keep you on the line to gather additional information.
In a fire emergency, remember to leave the building immediately and wait in a safe location until the fire department arrives. Never reenter a building.
