On behalf of the Municipality of North Grenville and Members of Council, we join with our community in solemn reflection this Remembrance Day.

Each year on November 11, Canadians come together to honor the courageous individuals in uniform who served and sacrificed in the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, United Nations peacekeeping missions, and Canada’s mission in Afghanistan. We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we celebrate the bravery of all who have risked their lives for our freedom.

Mayor Nancy Peckford issued the following statement on behalf of the Council in honor of Indigenous Veterans Day:

 On behalf of the Municipality of North Grenville and Members of Council, I would like to express our deep respect and gratitude for the invaluable contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples to Canada’s military efforts.

North Grenville, ON – The Municipality of North Grenville is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded four (4) Blooms in the 2024 Communities in Bloom provincial competition.

This recognition underscores North Grenville’s dedication to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and beautification efforts.

North Grenville, ON - The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee (EDIAC) is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 EDI Fund, established to support initiatives that promote EDI values within our community. A total of $14,083 has been awarded across five (5) key projects, including:

Parks Canada advises residents and visitors that the Burritts Rapids Tip-to-Tip Trail will be temporarily closed between Centre Street and the lockstation for tree and woody vegetation removal. This is necessary to allow for inspection and to maintain the integrity of the dam. The work is scheduled from October 21 to November 1, 2024. The same area will close again for one week in November for waterside erosion protection. Exact dates to be posted on Parks Canada website and social media.

The North Grenville Fire Service encourages all residents to actively engage with the 2024 Fire Prevention Week (FPW) theme, “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!”. Working smoke alarms are essential for enhancing safety during a home fire, providing critical time for escape. “This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign serves as an important reminder for everyone to prioritize these vital safety messages and take action,” stated the Fire Service. Fire prevention week is October 6 - 12, 2024.

As we commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and observe Orange Shirt Day, we raise the Every Child Matters flag to honour the Indigenous children taken from their families to residential schools—remembering both the survivors and those who never came home.

Each year, on the last Sunday of September, the Municipality of North Grenville solemnly lowers its flags in recognition of Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the immense sacrifices made by police and peace officers who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty, while safeguarding the wellbeing of our communities.
