North Grenville Council Declares Sunday, September 15th as Terry Fox Run Day

At just 18, Terry Fox lost his leg to cancer, but instead of giving up, he dedicated his life to raising awareness and funding for cancer research. His bold dream was to run across Canada to support this critical cause.

In 1980, Terry embarked on his Marathon of Hope in Newfoundland, running an astonishing 42 kilometers a day for 143 days, covering 5,373 kilometers through six provinces. Although he was forced to stop in Thunder Bay, his mission endures through the work of the Terry Fox Foundation.

Today, nearly 2 in 5 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, and 1 in 4 will die from it. Terry's unwavering belief in science, and his incredible legacy, continue to inspire millions. To date, the Terry Fox Foundation has raised over $850 million for cancer research.

Here in North Grenville, our dedicated volunteers have organized the Terry Fox Run since 1985, raising nearly $350,000 to date. The 43rd Annual Terry Fox Run will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Ferguson Forest Centre from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants can choose to run, walk, or bike a 2, 5, or 10 km route. To register, visit terryfox.org.

In honor of Terry’s enduring legacy, North Grenville Council has declared Sunday, September 15th as Terry Fox Run Day.

Let us come together to carry forward Terry’s dream and continue the fight against cancer.
