Council and staff at Riverside Park Outdoor Rink

Riverside Park Outdoor Rink Open for the Holidays

NORTH GRENVILLE, ON – The long-awaited Outdoor Rink at Riverside Park is complete and is now open to the public.

In effort to enhance recreational options and provide residents with more winter activity fun, the Municipality of North Grenville is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Riverside Park Outdoor Rink.

“Council is thrilled to officially open the Riverside Park Outdoor Rink in time for the holidays,” highlighted Mayor Nancy Peckford.

“This marks another significant milestone in the Riverside Park revitalization for our community to ensure that North Grenville remains a connected and vibrant community. Riverside Park will now be home to a refrigerated outdoor rink, a splash pad to open this spring and a newly renovated building with year-round access to washrooms and changerooms in the heart of Old Town Kemptville,” emphasized Mayor Peckford.

“We believe the revitalization of Riverside Park will enable our community to enjoy Riverside Park twelve months of the year. Council recognizes that investments in recreation improve the quality of life and well-being of North Grenville’s residents,” added Councillor Doreen O’Sullivan. “As a very active grandmother to three kids in the area, I know this firsthand!”

“Council would also like to extend its appreciation to the Government of Canada for its significant financial support of this project. We would also like to thank Southgate Church for donating the rink boards. This was a gracious and generous contribution from Southgate who led the way in envisioning an outdoor rink for North Grenville,” added Mayor Peckford and Councillor O’Sullivan.

The Municipality received a grant from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) in 2022 who contributed $455,000 towards the outdoor rink. This funding contributed to the establishment of North Grenville’s first ever refrigerated outdoor rink, which is available free of charge and will be enjoyed by families young and old for years to come.

“The new outdoor rink at Riverside Park will be a feature in North Grenville for generations to come. This project was a community-wide effort and I want to congratulate you all on this achievement,” said the Honourable Filomena Tassi, Minister Responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. “Our government is pleased to support this project which provides North Grenville residents with more outdoor activities to enjoy.”

Riverside Park Recreation Expansion Project

The outdoor rink is part of the expansion project at Riverside Park that will bring more outdoor recreational amenities to North Grenville.

New Recreational Amenities include:

  1. A refrigerated outdoor rink, also designed to support summer sports such as basketball, ball hockey and special events.
  2. A splash pad with a variety of spray elements (opening Summer 2024).
  3. A new accessible pool house that will support accessible washrooms and provide year-round outdoor access to users of the park.
