North Grenville, ON — As we celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, 2025, I am once again inspired by the remarkable women of North Grenville who contribute so much to our community through their leadership, resilience, and dedication.
This year’s theme, “Accelerate Action,” is not just a call to celebrate women’s achievements - but a powerful reminder of the urgent need to close the gender equality gap. At the current rate of progress, it will take until 2158, roughly five generations from now, to achieve full gender parity, according to data from the World Economic Forum.
In North Grenville, we are fortunate to have many women making a difference across every sector—from business, trades, and education to healthcare, public safety, emergency services, arts, recreation, sports, and social services. I am particularly proud that the Municipality of North Grenville’s own senior management team comprises many strong women, demonstrating our commitment to gender equity and showcasing the incredible talent and leadership within our organization.
However, recognizing their achievements is only part of the solution. We must also take concrete actions to create opportunities, support career advancement, and challenge the stereotypes that hold women back.
It is also vital to acknowledge and celebrate the role of men who actively support gender equality and contribute to building a community where every woman and girl feels empowered.
So, together, let’s Accelerate Action—to speed up the rate of progress, dismantle systemic barriers, and ensure a brighter, more equitable future for all.
To all the women of North Grenville—thank you for your unwavering contributions. On this International Women’s Day, let us not only celebrate your impact but also commit to the work needed to achieve real and lasting change. For more information, visit: www.internationalwomensday.com
